What We Do

Hanover Schools Counselors Logo - Manage, Assess, Deliver, Define. Hanover School Counselors "What's best for students"Welcome to the school counseling center. As the TGS school counselor, I work with students, administrators, teachers, and families to help students feel safe and happy at school so they can be the best learners possible. I help develop and organize teambuilding and community service activities that provide our students opportunities for positive peer interactions and leadership. I visit classrooms and facilitate lessons centered around the development of academic and social-emotional skills as well career awareness. I also provide individual and group counseling to help students develop positive coping skills.

School counseling programs are collaborative efforts benefiting students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the overall community. School counseling programs should be an integral part of every student's daily educational environment, and school counselors should be partners in student achievement.

The question has been posed, "What do school counselors do?" The more important question is, "How are students different as a result of what school counselors do?"

Hanover County Public Schools adheres to the American School Counselor Association National Model, which is a framework for a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program.

We also work in collaboration with the National Counseling Group (NCG) to do therapeutic day treatment. For more information, please view the NCG website.

TGS School Counseling Mission Statement

The TGS school counseling program is designed to foster a school community of respect, responsibility, and perseverance that empowers students to become confident, ethical, and productive citizens in a diverse and changing world. This will be accomplished by collaborating with families and other education stakeholders to ensure that all students have equitable access to the information, resources, and support they need to succeed.

TGS School Counseling Vision Statement

TGS students are self-sufficient individuals who make responsible choices and put forth full effort, thereby reaching their greatest potential in all areas of their lives.

TGS students have an unquenchable desire for knowledge: They seek and pursue a variety of learning opportunities, such as formal education, travel, reading, and dialog.

TGS students recognize and develop their assets: They set and work towards continuous goals that are based on their unique interests and skills.

TGS students employ self-care: They build strength and resiliency with daily practices that support physical and mental health. They cope with stressors using responsible and productive strategies.

TGS students demonstrate self-control: They consider outcomes before acting or speaking and choose the most respectful and constructive path.

TGS students build strong relationships: They demonstrate the ability to create meaningful connections with people and organizations.

TGS students overcome challenges: They problem-solve and persevere when faced with disappointment. They view change and mistakes as learning opportunities that prompt them to explore new approaches.

TGS students embrace diversity and progress: They intentionally interact, in a non-judgmental and open-minded manner, with people who look, think, and act differently from them. They take productive risks, both personally and professionally, that stretch them beyond their comfort zones and contribute to their ongoing development.

TGS students positively contribute to their communities: They possess the knowledge and confidence to advocate for themselves and causes in which they believe. They identify a service passion and selflessly give their time and talents to that ideal.

TGS students reach their lifelong dreams and aspirations: They achieve personal and professional fulfillment that is indicated by strong social-emotional health, lasting inter-personal connections, dedicated stewardship, and ongoing learning and growth.
